What is Imperfect Nostalgia?
I describe Imperfect Nostalgia as the feeling you get after making an incredible memory that you know can never be replicated, because what makes it so special is that it didn’t go to plan or wasn’t quite perfect- or maybe even far from it.
Instead of reminiscing with rose-colored glasses, Imperfect Nostalgia acknowledges all of the challenges, flaws, and beautiful aspects of past experiences. I like to think that this perspective on nostalgia better embraces the complexity of memories and really encapsulates what travel means to me.
This feeling is what I love so much about traveling and inspired me to start writing about it. You never know what a new experience will bring!
