San Diego Comic-Con (SDCC) is wild, wonderful, and overwhelming. And sometimes the hardest part of attending isn’t necessarily getting tickets or scoring merch…it’s figuring out where to stay.
As a San Diego local who’s experienced Comic-Con firsthand (I can literally see the Convention Center from my apartment), I’m here to break down the best downtown hotels to stay at during the convention. If you are in town for SDCC, I recommend staying within downtown San Diego to avoid having to commute in and out each day. As such, these hotel picks all keep you within walking distance of the San Diego Convention Center, surrounded by the energy, off-site events, and late-night fun.
My biggest recommendation for you is to book your room NOW, as these hotels WILL sell out. Remember, even if you’re going to Comic-Con this week, it’s not too early to book your room for next year! Even if you don’t have your tickets yet but expect to attend, you can book a refundable room rate to secure a place just in case.
Note: It is typically best practice to book within the official SDCC room block to guarantee your room.

Map of San Diego Comic-Con Hotels
Comic-Con takes over the San Diego waterfront. For a little context: one end of the convention center is anchored by the Hilton San Diego Bayfront and the other by the Marriott Marquis San Diego Marina. Just behind it is the Gaslamp District, packed with more hotels, restaurants, and bars. Most of them get completely swept up in the Comic-Con activities.
The Downtown vs. Mission Valley Debate: Staying downtown offers incredible convenience but comes with high costs. Many veterans prefer the “strategic retreat” to Mission Valley, which is cheaper and quieter, but requires a shuttle (the free SDCC shuttle service makes this a viable option).
If you’re coming to SDCC, I believe that downtown is hands down the best area to stay. Everything is walkable, and you’re right in the middle of the action. The shuttle can be very inconvenient. The map below shows the convention center and all the hotels I mentioned in this article, so you can easily see what’s nearby.
The Best Downtown San Diego Hotels for Comic-Con
1. Hilton San Diego Bayfront
Location: Right next to the convention center.
If you can swing it, this is the place to be. The Bayfront is basically Comic-Con central: hosting panels, parties, and installations everywhere. You’ll feel like you’re living inside the con. The downside is that It books up quickly and prices can skyrocket. But if there’s ever a time to splurge, it’s for this bucket-list weekend.
Why stay here:
- Just steps from Hall H and the main entrances.
- Views of the bay, marina, and all the cosplay below.
- Proximity to off-site events in the park and Hilton lounges.
- Great pool and bar.
2. Omni San Diego Hotel
Location: Across the pedestrian bridge from SDCC.
It’s hard to beat the location of the Omni. It’s a favorite for professionals and longtime attendees. The rooms facing the convention center even give you a view of the madness without leaving your bed.
Why stay here:
- Connected via skybridge to Petco Park, and easy access to off-site experiences.
- Views of Petco Park
